Work at a construction site in Dublin was temporarily brought to a halt today - after a rogue scorpion scuttled out of a batch of building supplies.
The alarm was raised at the Baggot Street site when the unexpected visitor crawled out of a delivery of kitchen sinks – believed to have arrived in from Turkey.
Workers immediately notified the DSPCA – and officers have since called in experts to identify the creature.
DSPCA spokesperson Gillian Bird said workers got “quite a shock” when the scorpion emerged:
Only a handful of Scorpion species are deadly - but many can deliver a nasty sting.
The society is looking for a suitable home for the intrepid arachnid – nicknamed JP by staff.
Ms Bird said JP is a “small scorpion measuring just under 4cm in length.”
“We are hoping to find a good home for JP once we have identified his or her species,” she said. “In the meantime he is safe and fed.”
