A 24-year-old man spent four hours partying in his underpants after he broke into a government jet used by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. 

The bodybuilder named Volkan T. caused an estimated €100,000 in damages when he sprayed fire extinguisher foam around the elegant interior, pushed buttons in the cockpit, released an inflatable emergency slide and even danced on a wing.

Volkan T. drove to the airport at around 8:00pm and bypassed a guard by claiming he had been invited to a wedding reception in the nearby officers' quarters. He climbed over a barbed wire fence and clambered onto the plane's left wing, gaining entry through an open emergency exit.

The aircraft was loaded with up to eight tons of fuel and technically could have taken off.

After midnight the man was finally arrested and is now being detained in a secure psychiatric hospital. 

The incident was reported last month but has drawn renewed attention after an eight page police report was leaked to German newspapers. 

Prosecutor Ulrich Bremer told German news magazine Spiegel he had ruled out terrorism as a motivation. "We have no indication of that at all so far," he said. 

The German Air Force is said to be reviewing its guidelines as a result of the incident.
