Two men have been charged after a driver was assaulted by men pretending to be Gardaí in Dublin.

Gardaí said it happened at Luttrelstown Way in Castleknock at around 11:55pm on Sunday.

A man in his 30s was stopped by two men driving a car with flashing red and blue lights in the windscreen.

They then began to question the man, claiming to be gardaí.

When the man asked them for identification, they tried to drive away; however, they returned when they saw him taking down the car’s registration.

One of them assaulted the man before getting back in the car and escaping “at speed” in the direction of Carpenterstown.

Gardaí later found the car at Mulberry Park in Castleknock and seized it for a technical examination.

Two men, one a teenager and one in his early 20s, were arrested yesterday and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station.

The teen was charged under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and bailed to appear in court on Friday May 1st.

The man in his 20s was charged with road traffic offences and is due to appear at Blanchardstown District Court on Tuesday 12th May.

Gardai said a file will now be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
