The Dáil’s disciplinary watchdog has thrown out a complaint from businessman Denis O'Brien - who says an Independent TD has abused her Dáil privilege.

The committee says Deputy Catherine Murphy made her controversial comments in good faith - and didn't break any Dáil rules in doing so.

The disciplinary watchdog, the Committee on Procedure and Privileges or ‘CPP’, received several complaints from Denis O’Brien and SiteServ, about the comments made by Catherine Murphy two weeks ago.

In her speech she made claims about Denis O’Brien’s loan arrangements with IBRC, and the interest rates paid on his loans.

Some of those details were covered by a previous High Court injunction secured by Mr O’Brien against RTE.

Mr O’Brien’s lawyers wrote to the CPP claiming that Deputy Murphy’s remarks were a breach of that injunction - and that her comments were also a breach of Dáil rules because of the court proceedings.

But meeting last night the CPP said it wasn’t a court, so it couldn't say whether the injunction had been breached.
