The army bomb squad has made safe a small explosive device in Drimnagh in Dublin.

The Defence Forces say the viable device was found outside a derelict house on Sperrin Road.

A unit was deployed to the area just after 1pm this afternoon.

It was made safe without a controlled explosion and has been taken away for examination.
