Hundreds of protesters have gathered in Carrigaline in Cork, where an oral hearing into plans to build a €160 million incinerator in Ringasiddy is due to get underway.

Indaver Ireland wants to build the 240,000 tonne waste to energy plant in Ringaskiddy.

The company's promised to invest €300,000 a year into the community for the next 25 years, if they're given the green light for the project.

The hearing gets underway in Carrigaline later today and is expected to last for three weeks.

A protest march had been organised by the Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment (CHASE) for 9.40am outside the Carrigaline Court Hotel where the An Bord Pleanála hearing is due to begin at 10.30am.

CHASE argue that the site had already been rejected twice for the project, for reasons ranging from coastal erosion to the project not fitting with County Development Plans.
