In the US, Democrats have called for the full report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller to be released to Congress.

The US Attorney General William Barr delivered the main findings of the report in a four-page letter to Congress yesterday.

The US Justice Department said the investigation found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

However, it said that it does not exonerate the president of obstruction of justice.

"The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities," Mr Barr wrote.

Regarding obstruction he said: "While the report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him."

President Trump welcomed the findings as a “complete and total exoneration” and labelled the investigation “an illegal take-down that failed.”

However, opposition politicians called for the report to be released to Congress in full.

In a joint statement, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said the letter “raises as many questions as it answers.”

“The fact that Special Counsel Mueller’s report does not exonerate the president on a charge as serious as obstruction of justice demonstrates how urgent it is that the full report and underlying documentation be made public without any further delay,” they said.

“Given Mr Barr’s public record of bias against the Special Counsel’s inquiry, he is not a neutral observer and is not in a position to make objective determinations about the report.

“And, most obviously, for the president to say he is completely exonerated directly contradicts the words of Mr Mueller and is not to be taken with any degree of credibility.”

Elizabeth Warren, who aims to challenge President Trump at the 2020 election, warned that politicians had voted to release the full report not a summary from Mr Trump's “handpicked attorney general.”

House Judiciary Chairman said the committee will Attorney General Barr to testify "in the near future."

“In light of the very concerning discrepancies and final decision making at the Justice Department following the Special Counsel report, where Mueller did not exonerate the President, we will be calling Attorney General Barr in to testify."

Republican representatives meanwhile, welcomed the letter.

Lindsay Graham, the Senate judiciary committee chairman said it was a “Bad day for those hoping the Mueller investigation would take President Trump down” and called for the country to “move on.”

President tweeted: "No Collusion. No Obstruction. Complete and total exoneration. Keep America great."

Donald Trump Jr railed at the "sick" and "twisted" media conspiracy that has overshadowed his father's presidency.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has spent almost two years examining Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

After charging 34 individuals, issuing 2,800 subpoenas and executing almost 500 search warrants, Mr Mueller submitted his report to Mr Barr.

Mr Barr’s letter advises Congress of the "principal conclusions" of the investigation and it remains unclear whether the entire report - which is confidential - will ever be published.

The special Counsel's investigation is not the only current probe into Mr Trump's activities, with his business practices and financial dealings reportedly under investigation by the State of New York.
