In South Africa, at least 30 people are now thought to have died after police opened fire on striking mine workers.

It happened at a platinum mine in Rustenburg – where rival unions and police have been engaged in a violent stand-off for over a week.

It’s understood police moved in yesterday evening after urging the miners to give up their weapons.
