The driver of the car is currently receiving medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Dame Street was closed this morning for forensic examination and has since reopened.

Gardaí in Pearse Street are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

They are particularly interested in anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area at the time.

This is the 76th road death in Ireland since the beginning of the year and the fifth cyclist to die on Irish roads.
