Customs seize millions worth of cigarettes in Cork

Over five million cigarettes with a retail value of €2.5m have been seized by Revenue at the port of Cork.

The Eton brand cigarettes, which were described as 'cardboard boxes,' were uncovered in a container which had traveled from Malaysia via Singapore and Rotterdam.

Elsewhere at Dublin Port, around 300l of alcohol was seized and over 4,000 cigarettes on an Irish registered van that disembarked a ferry from Liverpool.

And at Dublin Airport 18,000 Winston brand cigarettes worth almost €9,000 were found in the luggage of a 25-year-old Moldovan woman who had arrived on a flight from Moscow via Charles De Gaulle.

She appeared in court today where she was remanded in custody until next Tuesday.
