A cousin of Olympian boxer John Joe Nevin, has been refused bail after been charged with entering the home of a retired garda to commit a burglary.

20-year old Michael Nevin, with an address at Greenview, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise, appeared before a vacation sitting of Nenagh District Court today.

Mr Nevin is alleged to have entered the house at St Conlon's Rd, Nenagh, on July 25th last, as a trespasser intent on committing theft.

Mr Nevin, who won the European Junior Boxing Championship in Russia last year, was refused bail.

The six-time Irish champion, was remanded in custody by judge John King to appear before Nenagh District Court again on August 14th.
