Six more people who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 have died in Northern Ireland, the Public Health Agency confirmed.

A total of 21 people who had tested positive for coronavirus across the six counties have now died.

There were also 86 new cases confirmed in the region today, bringing the total number to 410.

The total number of people who have died from COVID-19 on the island of Ireland is now 57, after figures released yesterday show that coronavirus-related deaths in the Republic have increased to 36.

The total number of people who have died in the UK is now 1,235 after a further 207 people died after testing positive for coronavirus.

It comes as new powers came into effect in Northern Ireland to enforce a 'stay at home' order.

The regulations bring Northern Ireland into line with the rest of the UK.

The new rules include the ability to force businesses to shut and a crackdown on people who leave their homes without a "reasonable excuse".

Businesses that fail to comply can be fined over £5,000 with a fine of over £960 for people who fail to heed the regulations.

Spain, Italy and Germany

In Europe, the number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Spain has risen to 6,528 after 838 more people passed away.

Another 6,549 cases have been reported in the country, bringing the total there to 78,797.

Spain's number of deaths rose from 100 to 1,000 quicker than Italy, where 10,023 people have died after testing positive for COVID-19.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany has risen by 3,965 to 52,547, a government federal agency has said in the country.

Another 64 deaths have been recorded, bring the total there to 389.
