The COVID-19 incidence in Tullamore is now nearly five times the national average.

The County Offaly town had a rate of 754.5 cases per 100,000 people on Monday – when the national rate was just 158.3.

Buncrana in County Donegal is the second hardest-hit area in Ireland with a 14-day rate of 518.6.

A number of other areas have rate higher than 300 – including Roscrea-Templemore in Tipperary and Navan in Meath.

However, a host of areas, largely on the west coast, have rates of less than five per 100,000.

  • Belmullet and Westport in Mayo
  • Manorhamilton in Leitrim
  • North Connemara
  • Killaloe and Kilrush in Clare
  • Castleisland and Kenmare in Kerry
  • Macroom and Skibbereen West in Cork
  • Lismore in Waterford.

In Dublin, the area with the highest rate is Balbriggan with a rate of 391, with five other areas over 300.

Cork City Couth Central has the highest rate in Cork city at 98.3, while Limerick City East has the highest in that city at 150. Galway City Central has a rate of 161.
