Coronavirus: 631 new cases and 47 further deaths announced

A further 631 coronavirus cases have been announced this evening alongside 47 deaths.

Health officials said 14 of the deaths happened this month, with 18 in February and 15 in January.

It takes the death toll in Ireland to 4,499 and the national case total to 224,588.

This morning there were 370 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals, with 92 people in intensive care with their symptoms.

Of the cases announced this evening, 247 were in Dublin, with 50 in Kildare, 41 in Cork, 32 in Limerick and the rest spread across 20 other counties.

The 14-day rate of the virus in Ireland now stands at 162.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Longford still has the highest 14-day rate in the country, followed by Offaly.

As of Sunday, a total 525,768 vaccine doses had been administered in Ireland.

Some 375,521 people have received their first dose and 150,247 are fully vaccinated.
