26 of the new cases are in Kildare, 13 in Dublin and the rest of the 17 cases are in Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Laois, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Westmeath and Wicklow.

35 are associated with outbreaks or close contacts of a confirmed case, while 12 cases have been identified as community transmission.

It comes as NPHET meets this evening to discuss the latest spike in coronavirus cases.

Health officials will consider further recommendations to Government following recent spikes in new cases, including 200 new cases which were reported on Saturday.

Earlier, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said any decision to put further restrictions in place would only be made as a last resort.

Minister Donnelly also said he's very hopeful the additional measures in place in Kildare, Laois and Offaly will be lifted as planned on Sunday.
