There have been 329 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Ireland.

Eight further deaths have also been confirmed.

Of today's new cases 86 were in Dublin, 41 in Louth, 34 in Donegal, 25 in Limerick, 17 in Kildare and the remaining 126 cases were spread across another 20 counties.

As of 2pm this afternoon, 196 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Irish hospitals.

31 of those patients were being treated in intensive care.

Latest figures show the national 14-day incidence rate is 84 per 100,000 - with the highest rates recorded in Donegal, Louth and Kilkenny.

The five-day moving average of cases is 316.

Today's figures come as the Government unveils its vaccine rollout strategy - with the Health Minister saying the first people could be vaccinated before the end of the year if the EU approves the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine next week.
