382 people are in hospital with the virus, up 35 on yesterday.

61 patients are in intensive care.

This week marks the start of the new school year, with students across the country returning to classrooms.

This has led to some concerns about a potential fresh surge in cases, due to the dominance of the Delta variant of the virus.

However, the Chief Medical Officer says a lot of preparation has gone into ensuring schools are safe to reopen.

Dr Tony Holohan has insisted the school environment is not a major source of transmission.
