Cork City Fire Brigade says one of its crews was attacked while dealing with a fire last night.

It happened in the Ballyvolane area.

The Irish Examiner reports the crew was dealing with a rubbish fire when they were pelted with stones and rocks.

A firefighter was injured in the incident and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

Cork Fire Brigade said: "We wish our colleague a speedy recovery and thank the public for their continued support."
