A 78-year-old woman has been killed and her 75-year-old sister injured in a two vehicle collision in north Cork this morning.
The collision happened on the main Cork to Kanturk Road, at Glen South near Banteer, at around 11.30am.
The woman's car was in collision with a truck.
The emergency services were called and the 78-year-old woman, who is from the Lyre area, was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.
The woman's sister - a front seat passenger - was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
While the driver of the truck was treated for shock.
Gardaí closed off the road and diversions have been put in a place to allow a garda forensic crash investigator examine the scene of the collision.
