No surprise that for most weather stations, last month was the coolest July in at least 10 to 24 years.

Average temperatures ranged from 12.6 degrees celcius at Knock airport, its coolest since 1998 to Malin Head which reported an average temperature of 13 degrees.

Thats its coolest July in 40 years.

Rainfall was above average nearly everywhere with the highest amount falling in the Dublin area, Midlands and Southwest.

The highest daily rainfall was reported at Valencia where 32.1 millimetres fell yesterday.

Sunshine totals for July were also below average.
