The two children killed in a car fire in County Westmeath will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Two-year-old Michael Dennany and his five-year-old sister Thelma Dennany died in the fire at Multyfarnham at around 4pm on Friday.

Their mother Lynn Egar was taken from the scene by air ambulance to a Dublin hospital where she is still receiving treatment.

Funeral arrangements for both children have been confirmed this morning.

They will repose at Glennon's Funeral Home on the Ballinalee Road in Longford Town tomorrow evening from 4pm to 8pm.

A Mass of the Angels will take place in St. Mel's Cathedral in Longford at 11am on Thursday morning, followed by burial in Cullyfad Cemetery.

Gardaí yesterday confirmed that a criminal investigation into the deaths was underway.

They expect to question a person of interest before the end of this week.

The suspect identified by investigators is the only person Gardaí want to speak to at this stage.

They are continuing to appeal to anyone with any information to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to drivers who were in the area of Lacken, Multyfarnham, between 2pm and 4pm on Friday and may have camera footage.
