Thousands of euro worth of cash and goods have been seized as part of an investigation into a south Dublin crime gang.

Gardaí say the gang is suspected of being involved in burglaries of homes throughout Ireland.

Three properties were searched today in Dublin, Kildare and Westmeath by the Garda Organised Crime Bureau and the Criminal Assets Bureau.

So far, €33,000 in cash, six Rolex watches, a quantity of jewellery and three vehicles have been seized.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in money laundering.

He's being held at Ronanstown Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Garda Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, of special crime operations, said today's searches came part of the force's Operation Thor, which is focused on targeting those involved in burglaries.

He explained: "Today this activity has resulted in an arrest and the seizure of property of significant value, believed to be proceeds of crime.

"Our activity in this regard will continue in an effort to prevent burglaries from taking place in the first instance and to recover stolen property and apprehend culprits, where burglaries have already taken place”.
