A Canadian judge is due to testify on Friday before a five-member committee in Calgary after comments he made before acquitting a man of sexual assault in 2014.

Judge Robin Camp, now a federal judge, is facing a Canadian Judicial Council's investigation after four law professors filed a complaint against him.

During the original trial he asked the woman: "Why couldn't you just keep your knees together? Why didn't you just sink your bottom down into the basin so he couldn't penetrate you?"

Camp said young women "want to have sex, particularly if they're drunk", according to the notice on the Canadian Judicial Council website.

An "inquiry committee" has been assembled by the Alberta attorney general and will decide whether Camp should be removed from the bench.

The woman at the centre of the case appealed the original ruling and and the man accused of raping her over a sink, Alexander Wagar, is due to stand trial again in November.
