The bust of Dubliner Luke Kelly has been vandalised again.

It's the fifth time the art piece on Guild Street in the city has been targeted by paint in the past 13 months.

Red paint appeared on the face of the bust of the Sheriff Street native, as well as on the base of the installation.

Professional cleaners will remove the graffiti tomorrow morning.

Councillor Christy Burke said: "Let's hope it doesn't repeat itself again. I'm lost, and I would call it nothing short of thuggery.

"I'm lost for words as to how any individual, could have such disrespect for such a great ambassador and a well-respected man Luke Kelly. We're all just numb."

The statue is one of two sculptures of the late musician unveiled in Dublin last year to mark the 35th anniversary of his death.
