Bus Éireann has spent at least €7 million on a fleet of buses for Navan which will not even fit through the town.
The Sunday Business Post says the company has already bought 12 double-decker coaches at €600,000 each.
But when Bus Eireann tested the new buses they were unable to get around bends and corners. The paper reports the 1.5 metre long vehicles swung across pavements, clipped kerbs and became stuck in a number of places.
The investment is part of of €25 million investment funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) to boost Bus Eireann’s eastern services.
Local Independent Councillor, Wayne Ford told the paper the fleet they currently have causes problems “never mind these new, longer buses”.
He said: “There’s not a chance these longer buses will be able to access a bus hub in Kennedy Road.”
