There is an unusually heavy Garda presence around Government Buildings this afternoon – with large sections of the area cordoned off as part of the Garda Security operation.

Five roads have been closed off with round 200 Gardaí to be deployed to the area as authorities aim to avoid a repeat of last month’s protests which saw politicians and staff harassed by demonstrators.

Meanwhile, much of today’s budget package has already been leaked with the Finance Minister expected to announce a major cut to childcare fees alongside social welfare increases and changes to USC and tax rates.
