Niall Murray was one of seven people seriously injured when an apartment balcony in Berkeley, California, collapsed on June 16.

Last night, he spoke for the first time about the tragedy in which six of his friends died.

Ashley Donohoe, Olivia Burke, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcan Miller and Eimear Walsh lost their lives when a balcony at the Library Gardens apartment complex in Berkeley, California collapsed 40ft during a birthday party.

Niall, 21, will return home next week after undergoing intensive treatment and rehabilitation.

Speaking to reporters outside his San Jose hospital, Niall says he'll never forget those who were killed when the balcony gave way.

"To the six families back home, I'm looking froward to getting to see you and spend time with you - to of our friends who aren't here any more.

"To our friends, we miss you. We will always miss you. We'll never forget you and some day I look forward to seeing you all again."
