A man aged in his 40s has been shot in the head in Belfast.

It happened at Rosssnareen Avenue in the west of the city, shortly before 9.00am.

He was taken from the scene by car, then transferred to an ambulance and rushed to hospital.

There is an ongoing police operation in the area, and a number of roads have been sealed off.
