A year after the collapse of a garment factory in Bangladesh in which more than 1,100 people died there are still concerns about worker safety and rights in the developing country.

The factory was one of hundreds across Bangladesh producing clothes for the likes of Primark, Mango and Benetton.

To mark the anniversary, there are calls for all clothing companies using factories in developing countries to commit to the safety of their workers.

Rachel Wilshaw from Oxfam says the fashion industry need to do more:

Compensation for victims

Workers at Rana Plaza were employed by sub-contractors working for 27 western firms, who have been asked to contribute to a $40 million compensation fund. So far, only $15 million has been raised.

Primark - which operates Penneys - says it voluntarily initiated a long-term compensation fund for 550 victims' families last Autumn, having already provided short-term compensation.

The long-term compensation scheme has been devised with assistance from external experts, and involves medical and vulnerability assessments.

Selfie campaign

To highlight the anniversary of the disaster, people are being asked to wear something inside out and share pictures of that online. Oxfam is promoting Fashion Revolution Day as part of an effort to transform the clothing industry.

In Dublin, a structure will be put up on Grafton Street to mark the anniversary.
