The number of people killed in violent storms sweeping the US has now reached 14 across three states.

A teenage girl and two 22-year-old men are known to have died in Tennessee.

At least twenty tornadoes hit America's south and midwest.

Torrential storms also dumped 10 inches of rain across parts of southeast Alabama.

BBC reported that planes at a small airport in the north-west of Mississippi were overturned as a result of the heavy winds.

The threat of tornadoes is now said to have diminished. However the US National Weather Service is warning of possible 'isolated severe storms' for Christmas Day and Night in southern parts of the US.

The continuing stormy conditions are said to be causing flooding and travel chaos in Alabama, Georgia and North & South Carolina.
