In an example of the kind of pithy banter thought up while being served a cheeky Nando’s, the new Amazon motoring show set to be presented by axed Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson is thought to be called Gear Knobs.
Clarkson, who was fired from presenting the popular motoring show after he assaulted a producer in a spat about not having hot food, will be joined in the Amazon show with fellow Top Gear presenters Richard Hammond and James May on Gear Knobs.
Buzzfeed has discovered that Clarkson’s lawyers Olswang filed a trademark application on the name a fortnight before the deal with Amazon’s video streaming service Prime Instant Video was announced on July 30th. The three former BBC stars have agreed to make 36 episodes of their new show with the American company in a deal worth a reported £160m (€220m).
Clarkson’s application was issued through a newly-established shell company called Newincco 1361, which also registered the name Gear Nobs.
The news comes just a month after Amazon Prime Instant Video boss Roy Price said that the trio was struggling to develop a new name for their show, but Gear Knobs would certainly be in keeping with their style – and would act as a slap in the face to the BBC, which owns the rights to Top Gear and plans to bring it back to screens with a new presenting team led by Chris Evans.
