On this week’s So You Think You’re an Adult, one bride is dealing with a classic conundrum: her mother-in-law wants to wear white to the wedding.

“I’m one straw away from releasing my inner bridezilla,” she told Moncrieff.

“My fiancé is a mammy’s boy through and through, and although his mother means well for the most part, she never fails in driving me spare.

“My fiancé and I have been in a glorious bubble of wedding planning ahead of our big day in August.

“As to be expected, that bubble has been burst by the other woman in his life - not only has she bought a white dress for the day, but she’s asked if she could pair it with a tiara she’s found online to match.

“My husband understands the imposition but has asked me to compromise by allowing her to wear one of the items.”

Chaos at the wedding

Writer Barbara Scully said the bride should not give into her future of mother-in-law's “mischief”.

“You need to bear in mind that your mother-in-law is going to be in your life for the foreseeable future and you need to learn to pick your battles and pick them really, really carefully,” she said.

“I would also imagine that if your mother-in-law turns up at your wedding looking like the bride in a white dress and a tiara, everybody’s going to think she looks ridiculous.”

Barbara suggested letting the mother-in-law away with wearing white – especially if it’s likely that she is hoping for the bride to “explode”.

'Rise above'

Actress Mary McEvoy agreed, urging the bride to remain “calm and serene”.

“All you have to do is be just super gorgeous as all brides are and rise above it,” she said.

“And be ready for the tissues when mammy realises that she is the joke.”

Mary and Barbara agreed, however, if the bride is feeling mischievous herself, she could swap her own white wedding dress for a scarlet one.
