A baby girl has been found in a box outside a house in England, police say.

A member of the public made the discovery after they heard a noise coming from a box sitting outside a house.

A baby girl was found inside, wrapped in a blue blanket and wearing just a nappy, according to Northamptonshire police.

Police say the child "appears to be in good health and is currently being taken care of at Kettering General Hospital."

She has dark hair and dark eyes and police estimate she is aged between one and four weeks old.

"Officers urgently need to trace the baby’s mother and are concerned for her welfare," police say.

Police have released a picture of the box (above). It appears to be packaging for a baby feeding kit.

They have appealed with anyone for information to contact Northamptonshire police or call independent charity Crimestoppers.
