It'll become cloudy with persistent rain along the west coast in the afternoon, with a spell of heavy rain developing and pushing eastwards through the evening.

There is a Status Orange warning and two Status Yellow warnings in place today.

Tonight

The band of heavy rain will continue to push eastwards tonight, clearing the east coast in the early hours of the morning. With clear spells developing it will turn cold with temperatures falling to between 2 and 4 degrees by morning.

Showers will develop along the west coast overnight, turning heavy and possibly wintry. Strong southerly winds will veer southwest with the clearing rain and ease somewhat.

High alert

Today's orange weather alert affects people in Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Clare where high winds and stormy conditions are forecast.

Meanwhile, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford are also in line for high winds.

Those warnings are in place until late tonight.
