Gardai are investigating the death of a young 7 year old boy in Cork.

It's understood he died as a result of a fall from a horse on Spring Lane at Blackpool just before lunchtime today.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It's expected a post mortem examination will be carried out.
