There has been a rise in the number of recorded homicide offences in Ireland.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that there were 68 homicides in the past 12 months in Ireland, up from 67 in the previous year.
The increase was driven by a rise in dangerous driving leading to death.
Theft and related offenses were also up slightly, from 76,394 to 77,022.
However, there was a fall in all of the remaining categories; weapons and drug offences were down 13.9%, controlled drug offences dropped by 12.6% and there was a drop in attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassment and related offences by 10% in the year to the end of June.
Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan said the figures reflect the "intensive work" being carried out by the Gardai.
"An Garda Síochána continue to have a very real and tangible effect on the quality of life in communities around the country."
He also addressed the large quantity of ammunition, firearms and explosives found in Clare last week.
"An Garda Síochána will continue to combat crime in all its forms, and our continued commitment to deal with the significant threat posed by dissident groups is reflected in the recent discovery over the weekend.
"It is through targeted intelligence led operations such as these that we can most effectively disrupt subversive and criminal gangs and ensure that benefits are seen by lawful citizens going about their daily business on the streets of the cities and towns of the country."
