Rapper 50 Cent has added another crime to his rap sheet, having been detained by police officers in St Kitts and Nevis for allegedly using “indecent language” while performing on stage at a music festival. Along with a member of his entourage, the musician, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, has been released on bail pending a court appearance this morning.

The 40-year-old rapper had been the headline act at the St Kitts Music Festival on Saturday night, and while performing his song P.I.M.P., 50 Cent reportedly used the word ‘motherf*****’ several times in front of the 40,000-strong crowd – despite having previously been warned not to use any profane language.

Both 50 Cent and his bodyguard were formally arrested and charged for the offence of “making use of indecent language,” the official Facebook account of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force said. Both men were released on bail of US$5,000 (€1,680).

“Mr Jackson was only booked to host the show,” said his spokeswoman, Amanda Ruisi. “When he arrived at the festival, organisers asked him to perform, he obliged, and used the DJ they had there. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the clean version to his tracks so where were profanities used during his performance. The show was a great success, and he will make sure for future trips to St Kitts that he leaves the ‘motherf*****s’ in the United States.”

In 1994, Jackson pleaded guilty to felony charges of peddling heroin and crack cocaine. Although sentenced to three to nine years in prison, the rapper would only serve six months in a boot camp where he also earned his certificate of high school equivalency, also known as a GED.
