Every Friday sees the new album and single releases hit online and the stores, and here's our picks of the five songs you should be listening to this weekend.
Garbage - "Empty"
Four years since Not Your Kind Of People, and Garbage have just released the first single from their upcoming sixth album, Strange Little Birds. Still working with producer Billy Bush, this has the all of the pure sounds we've come to recognise from classic Garbage tracks like "When I Grow Up", while still sounding painfully current. Happy to have you back, Manson and co.!
Laura Mvula - "Phenomenal Woman"
The influence of Nile Rodgers - who popped up on Mvula's last single "Overcome" - can still be felt here in that squelchy, 70's funk guitar in the chorus. Her upcoming album The Dreaming Room (which is due out June 17th) is already primed to widen her audience massively if she can keep up this rate of hi-tempo finger-clickers.
Ariana Grande - "Let Me Love You" featuring Lil' Wayne
After the disappointed reaction "Focus" a few months back, Grande took a new look at her upcoming album, and has repackaged herself as this generation's sultry answer to Mariah Carey. "Let Me Love You" hooks her up with the ever-present Wayne, as they both discuss the best way to get over an ex... is to get under the next.
Flume - "Say It" featuring Tove Lo
It would appear that Tove Lo has finally arrived. Appearing on the new Nick Jonas song "Close" and the remix of Years & Years "Desire" in the last few weeks, she's now hoping on Australian electro-dance artist's Flume latest single from his upcoming album Skin. Of course, all this activity should mean we'll be getting a new Tove Lo album soon too, and if it's anything like 2014's Queen Of The Clouds, we're all in for real treat.
