Organisers have confirmed that a 23-year-old man from Dublin collapsed 300 or 400 metres away from the finish line at this morning's half-marathon.
The young runner suffered a cardiac arrest close to the finish line in Phoenix Park.
A number of doctors - who were participants in the race themselves - stopped to provide the man with assistance.
He was transferred to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Organisers have commended the St John's Ambulance medical team and all those who looked after the young man and expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
In a statement today, the half-marathon organisers asked for people to respect the family's privacy.
