Every other outlet on the planet has been working tirelessly over their Top Ten End Of Year lists, but here at Newstalk, we've decided to do something slightly different...
Instead of the usual league-type rankings, we've decided to break it down into categories, much like at the Oscars or the Golden Globes, but without any trophies to take home at the end.
And to that end, here are our winners (and, in some cases, losers) of 2015.
Most Underrated: TOMORROWLAND
Director Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) passed up on directing the latest Star Wars movie for this, and while it semi-tanked at the box office, time and hindsight should treat it well. George Clooney and relative newbie Britt Robinson team up for this new spin on a time-travelling action-adventure that is definitely worth your time.
Most Overrated: ANT-MAN
Currently sitting pretty at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ant-Man is nowhere near as good as the higher end Marvel movies we've gotten such as Iron Man, Captain America: The Winter Soldier or The Avengers. While Paul Rudd nailed the lead role, the story just plodded from one under-cooked set-piece to the next, and the movie was unfortunately nowhere near as funny as it should have been.
Most Surprisingly Good: VACATION
Remakes are almost never a good thing. Remakes of comedies double down on that potential awfulness, but this reboot/remake/sequel of the Chevy Chase '80s cult classics was shockingly very funny in places. Definitely not one for the kids (watch as the mother vomits her way through an alcohol based gauntlet), but for those in search of a good laugh, you can't go wrong with this one.
Most Disappointing: TERMINATOR GENISYS
After the third and fourth sequels, hopes were low that the Terminator franchise would get back to it's heyday. Getting a director from Game Of Thrones, plus casting Khaleesi as a young Sarah Connor were both steps in the right direction, plus James Cameron came out and said the movie was great. It wasn't. It was a total mess.
Best Blockbuster: MAD MAX FURY ROAD
It was a close class between this and The Force Awakens, but in the end we had to give it to Fury Road, potentially the best action movie this side of Die Hard. The plot is dirt simple - bad guys chase the good guys across the desert and back - but the mix of stunts, explosions, OTT visuals and Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron giving their all, this had everything that adrenaline junkies needed from their cinema.
Saddest Movie: ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL
Its not like 2015 was a drought from tear-inducing movies - just look at Brooklyn, Miss You Already, Inside Out, Amy, Southpaw or any number of others - but this was the one that clocked up the most napkins being used. The story of two young guys befriending a girl in their class who has been diagnosed with cancer, you will not be able to make it through this movie without being turned into a blubbering mess. You have been warned.
Most Mispromoted Movie: CRIMSON PEAK
Look at that trailer below. What did that look like to you? A big-budget, old-school horror movie, right? Instead we got a big-budget, gothic-romance that just happened to have some ghosts in it. Yes, the movie was beautiful, and yes, it was very violent in places, but as far as horror goes, this left audience members wanting.
Who Had The Best 2015?: ALICIA VIKANDER
She's been doing bits and pieces for years, but then this year she's blown us out of the water by stealing the show in the likes of Ex_Machina, The Man From UNCLE and Burnt. On January 1st, her new movie The Danish Girl hits Irish cinemas, which garnered her a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination, so there's no signs of Miss Vikanders slowing down in 2016, either.
Who Had The Worst 2015?: JOSH TRANK
You might not have heard of him, and after this year, you might not hear of him again. He directed that frankly awful remake of Fantastic Four, and was due to direct an upcoming Star Wars movie, when he suddenly went missing from their director's rota, and was duly replaced by the guys behind 22 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie. Is one bad movie enough for him to get the boot? Well, no, but there was also the unfounded reports that he was regularly inebriated on set, and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to his rented home.
Best Film: WHIPLASH
Released in Irish cinemas way back in January, this nail-bitingly tense face-off between a perfectionist seeking jazz drummer and his drill-sergeant'esque teacher shouldn't have been nearly this good, but it turned out to be one of the most drainingly intense cinematic experiences in some time.
Worst Film: FIFTY SHADES OF GREY
Sex is unsexy and, frankly, quite boring in the world of Fifty Shades Of Grey, and despite it being universally panned and the two stars very obviously having less than zero sexual chemistry, the movie still made over half a billion dollars worldwide, and there's two sequels incoming, too. This is why we can't have nice things!
