At least 200 gunmen have surrounded Libya's Foreign Ministry, calling for officials who served under former dictator Muammar Gaddafi to be banned from senior positions.

About 20 pick-up trucks loaded with heavy weapons blocked the roads around the building, while men carrying rifles directed traffic away.

Libya's military said negotiations with the protestors are underway and that no one has entered the building.
