As many as 20 Fine Gael TDs and Senators could vote against the proposed new abortion legislation if it allows for terminations where there is a risk of suicide.

The Sunday Times reported that they have held informal discussions about how to co-ordinate their opposition.

Meanwhile, the Sunday Independent has published recordings of Labour TDs Aodhán Ó Riordáin and Anne Ferris which the newspaper says shows their support for 'abortion on demand'.

There has been no agreement between Fine Gael and Labour over the proposed Bill, the heads of which are due to be brought to Cabinet on Tuesday.

Both the Taoiseach and Tanaiste insisted last week, that the x-case which permits a termination on the grounds of suicide will be legislated for.
