Get your walking shoes ready: 100 Days of Walking starts on Friday for 2021.

For the fourth year in a row, Newstalk Breakfast presenter Ciara Kelly is calling on listeners to take part in the walking challenge.

The challenge is simple: walk for just thirty minutes a day for 100 days, starting from January 1st.

It's a great way to start the new year in an active way.

It's also "COVID compatible" - a daily safe activity to enjoy in the area around your home, even if restrictions are in place.

Ciara explained: "It costs nothing, anybody can do it... it's so simple.

"All ages, all shapes, all sizes, all levels of fitness: you go for a walk for half an hour a day. That's the minimum."

This year's initiative starts as usual on January 1st, and will bring you all the way up to April 9th.

Many of those who take part also find themselves continuing the daily routine well beyond 100 days.

As ever, all walkers are encouraged to use their social channels to share pictures and details of their walks, using #100DaysofWalking.
