Each January new year resolutions mean large numbers of people start the year by giving up smoking, starting a diet or not drinking for a month. I'm always asked if I can recommend a non alcoholic wine. The short answer is no I can't. Sorry.
I take a different tack. January is usually one of the coldest months and and I like to enjoy winter warmer or a little liquid central heating while sitting by an open fire. I increase my intake of stronger drinks such as Sherry, Port, Australian muscat and hot whiskies.
On today's show we'll taste a fortified Muscat from Rutherglen which is brilliant match with fruit and nut chocolate which we'll also try. We'll also have a new and unusual drink called Beech Leaf Liqueur made by Mary Bulfin or 'Wid Food Mary' as she is know as she runs classes on foraging for all sorts of wild foods across Ireland including the raw material for this drink. It can be enjoyed neat or alongside or in coffee or hot chocolate.
