Carpool Candidates with Henry McKean – getting the truth out of politicians behind the wheel of a car. Michael Healy-Rae lets the Newstalk reporter try on his infamous peaked cap and sometimes rings his late dad Jackie forgetting he has died.
The Kerry Independent got out of Henry's dreams and into his car for to discuss his late dad Jackie, a pretty woman who crosses his path and why he wears a peaked cap.
But Healy-Rae refused to be drawn on whether he'd go into Coalition with Fine Gael post-Election: "Give the people a chance to vote first, looking into a crystal ball today, it’s crazy, let it happen and evolve first."
Speaking about his late mother and father, Healy-Rae revealed that he sometimes forgets they're gone and goes to pick up the phone to call them: "I recently picked up the phone to ring my father (Jackie) to tell him I was going on the TV with Miriam O’Callaghan. When I pulled out the phone, I thought what am I doing?"
However, the TD got distracted when a pretty woman crossed the path of Henry’s car, and confessed: "I'm always be looking at women, there is no harm in that."
When it comes to the politician's own appearance, Henry inquired as to why he carries on the family tradition of wearing a flat-cap, just like his brother Danny and father Jackie.
"I have been wearing a hat since school, I’m more comfortable with a hat on my head, if it’s sunny it stops my head getting burnt, if it’s raining it stops it getting wet," he said.
