Scottish craft brewery BrewDog has launched one of the UK's biggest ever crowdfunding campaigns to raise up to £25m (€35m) to expand its business. The independent brewery claims that traditional finance is ruining beer.

James Watt, BrewDog’s co-founder, said: "We are not the Rockefellers. We are Guy Fawkes. This is about changing small business finance forever."

He continues: "By making profit king, the financial institutions of the City gave rise to the bastardisation and commoditisation of beer. We are burning the established system down to the ground and forging a new future for business from the flames."

Beer enthusiasts can buy shares - the minimum investment is £95 (€133) for two shares. These stakes in the company are being sold through its own online platform - Equity for Punks - rather than through a traditional crowdfunding site.

Investors receive perks like discounts in the company's online store and bars, and free beer on their birthday.

BrewDog sales rose by 64 percent last year as it shipped 90,000 hectolitres of beer - that's 18 million pints. The company is known for its innovative brews - it launched 36 new beers in 2014.
