Kickstarter Ireland has its first major success story - Irish guitar designer Rob O'Reilly's Expressiv Midi, a guitar that can play midi sounds.

The Kickstarter initially hoped to raise €15,000 - so far it has brought in €17,148 - and the company is still raising money for another 11 days.

Backers could get their hands on a guitar for the very-reasonable sum of €397.

The company say that the nifty piece of gear will open-up all the possibilities of modern music technology to guitarists, allowing them to create "complex soundscapes, orchestrations for film scores and more," without having to learn how to play a keyboard.

This was one of the first projects posted on the new dedicated Irish Kickstarter site.
