Irish Water

As the controversy continues to rage with a lifespan unlike any other story has in recent years, the pressure mounts on the government. Today Richard Bruton said the government had nothing to apologise for, while the Taoiseach said the government will make a “clear and accurate” decision on water charges shortly.

The Web Summit

The Web Summit is Europe's largest festival of ideas and it kicks off tomorrow. Founded in 2010, the event has grown exponentially and this year will host 20,000 attendees and guests in Dublin on November 4th- 6th at the RDS. The Summit is worth €102m to the local economy and is attracting an intyernational media attention unlike anything ever seen in the business and technology sector.

Also at the Web Summit, the winner of the ESB Spark of Genius will be announced tomorrow.

Humphreys visits United States for famine commemoration

The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht is travelling to United States to attend the 6th International Famine Commemoration.

Heather Humphreys will spend five days in Atlanta, where she will visit the Seamus Heaney exhibition at Emory University and deliver a keynote address -on the arts as a gateway to business -at an event hosted by the Irish Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta.

Minister Humphreys will spend a further four days in New Orleans, where the 2014 International Famine Commemoration will take place.

Irish emigrants developed a strong presence in New Orleans in the years following the Famine.
