Professional messaging app Slack will create 80 jobs in Dublin over the next two years - this will bring the total number of people employed in the Dublin office to 180.

The announcement comes only 11 months after the US firm opened its European headquarters in Ireland.

The roles will be in customer experience and account management.

Slack's decision to take on more staff was prompted by strong demand for its messaging services.

Its Irish operation is moving to 29,000 square feet of office space at One Park Place in Dublin 2.

James Sherrett, Slack’s Dublin-based senior manager of accounts commented on the company's growth:

"Our user base grew tenfold last year and we’re seeing strong demand across all industries and from businesses of all sizes, for more efficient and effective team communications."

Slack has 2.7 million active daily users, it has raised funding of $540m and employs 430 people around the world.

Acting Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton welcomed the news, saying, "Today’s announcement that it is creating an additional 80 jobs and opening a new office is further evidence of its commitment to Ireland and its ambitious plans for its operations here."
