Sean Quinn Senior has been released from Mountjoy Jail this morning.

He had been serving a 9-week sentence for contempt although he was released temporarily to spend Christmas with his family.

The former billionaire was returned to custody on December 27th to serve the remainder of his sentence.

He was jailed for contempt of court orders put in place to stop Quinn assets being put beyond the reach of IBRC.

He left the prison in Dublin at around 9am this morning.

Cross-examination of Quinn family

Meanwhile 3 weeks from today the Quinn children will face cross-examination in the High Court.

Newstalk's business editor Ian Guider says the IBRC will be seeking information on the property empire and what happened to the rent-roll from it.

This is thought to be worth some US$35 million over the last few years.

Tom Lyons is the deputy business editor of The Sunday Independent.

He spoke to Breakfast here on Newstalk about what happens now.
